How to Observe Mauni Amavasya: Rituals and Remedies For Most Benefit

Mauni Amavasya is a very special day when the Sun is in Capricorn showing Karmic Upliftment and the blessings of Bhaga Aditya. This Amavasya happens when the Sun and Moon both are in Saturn’s sign Capricorn. This is the natural 10th house showing karma. This day marks the epitome of spirituality and it can be used to get rid of bad karma, negative Saturn and steps towards salvation.

Amavasya is the Tithi of Saturn and the Devata for this Tithi is Ma Kali. She is the remover of Sarrow (Saturn) and can give the highest form of mukti “Kaivalyam”.

We must use the occasion of this auspicious tithi and get the most benefit from these remedies

1. Maun Vrat

As the name suggests Maun is keeping silent and reflecting inside. The vow of silence on this day replenishes the Vac Chakra and activates the Amrita inside. Maun vrat also helps fight the negatives of Ketu in the horoscope. Keep this vrat for the day as long as you can and reflect inside.

2. Ganga Snana

Taking a dip in the holy Ganga is said to get rid of all sins. The river Ganga is also associated with the Zodiac Sign Capricorn, which is called Makar in Vedic Astrology. Makar means a cemetery where all the dead come. Ganga has the power to wash all sins and give Mukti as she flows directly from the head of Mahadeva.
Those who can not come to take a dip in the Holy Ganga must take a bath at their homes while chanting the Mantra ” Har Har Gange”. This mantra activates the cleansing power of Ma Ganga.

3. Pitra Tarpana

Amavasya Tithi is of Saturn, who represents the Pitrs. For those who have not done the Shradha for their Pitrs, this is a perfect day do to Tarpan for your Pitrs. One must read the 8th and 11th Chapters of the Shrimad Bhagwat Gita to pacify and free one’s Pitrs from any unwanted Yoni.

4. Kali Pooja

As said above Amavasya is the best tithi to worship Ma Kali. Those suffering from Saturn-related problems, like Shani Mahadasa or Sade Sati, must worship Ma Kali on the evening of Mauni Amavasya. Ma Kali is always worshipped with Mahakaal. Do these mantras and offer red flowers to Ma Kali.

Kali Mantra
क्रीं कालिके क्रीं। krīṁ kālike krīṁ |

MahaKaal Mantra
ॐ नमः शिवाय माहाकालेशवारय हौं जुं सः | om namaḥ śivāya māhākāleśavāraya hauṁ juṁsaḥ|

5. Daan

Donations made on this day are very important. One must donate either food to the hungry, medicines to the sick and clothes to the poor. Any donation made must be anonymous i.e. Gupta Dana and should not be used for any publicity.
