Problems in Marriage & Relationships

The 7th house of the Horoscope is important bhava as it is the Kama (Desire) Ayana. It shows our higher desires and emotions. It is the house of our spouse (partner), business, wars and death. This house also indicates vriddhi in life i.e. something we can grow, and the concept of Upachaya Bhavas comes from here.

The prima facia use of the 7th house is used to see our spouse. The planets here, its lord and Karaka will show what is in our destiny and how we think about our spouse. This can be further seen in the Navamsa chart which is the magnified version of the 7th house.

There are multiple factors that cause issues in relationships and marriages. As a seasoned astrologer one has to pinpoint the cause and remedy it. If there are more than three issues in the horoscope depicting the same problem in the relationship then it becomes very hard to remedy as God has chosen to close its door. One has to understand at times issues are so hard that they need tremendous effort and time to clear blockages.

There are a few important factors that we need to check in order to see the problems. We all have issues in some relations as the 7th house is the door through which we meet people. Out of the people, one will become our spouse. These factors are

1. Venus – The Karaka of the 7th house.
2. The 7th House and its Lord – Our thought process towards the spouse.
3. The 12th House – Vivah Karma, the one who walks with us through our life.
4. Upapada Lagna & Darapada – The manifestation of Marriage and Desire.
5. Mangal Dosha
6. Navamsa – The Spouse and Destiny
7. Tithi – The water element (Panchanga)
8. Atmakaraka & Darakaraka – Karmic implications on the Soul from the past life.

These are the important factors which will determine a person’s relationship and marriage. Vedic astrology is very dynamic, one simple problem or one good placement will not function, as a horoscope has to be read as one whole living being. The dynamics change with slight variations, so don’t be sad or happy seeing one yoga. Read the horoscope as a whole and then decide.

Venus

Venus is the planet responsible for all relationships and love. It is the ruler of the natural 7th house and also its karaka. Marriage is seen in the 7th house from Venus (First Marriage) and Venus itself is the destiny of marriage.

If Venus is with malefics that our destiny is hampered and we suffer in marriage. Venus placed in a dusthana like in the 6th house of Marana shows dying love and fighting. Venus in the 8th house of Rudra Bhava shows Shadu Shukra, meaning one giving up relationships and transforming due to sorrow. This same can be applied to Venus in the 2nd house but to a lower extent. Venus in the 12th house is good for marriage, one relationship for life. Venus in the 6th and 8th house is the real trouble.

Venus afflicted with malefics shows suffering due to the Tamas associated with the Malefic planet

• Venus + Mars – Ghandanta, as fire and water are together. This Yoga is called Vaitanika Yoga and can cause serious relationship fighting and breakage. This yoga in female charts may lead to sexual abuse if Mars is strong. Whenever you see this Yoga always make Venus strong, no matter what.
• Venus + Saturn – Dara Dosha, the asur is with its Guru. This yoga gives suffering in life through relationships, as Saturn is sorrow. It makes Saturn very strong, like exalted Saturn.
• Venus + Rahu – Devi Sthambana, a person is cheated in relationships and has too many troubles with inlaws.
• Venus + Ketu – Rakta Dosha, one gets many shocks in marriage and relationships, that causes blood-related issues. Ketu destroyed the Rajas of Venus.

Check these Yogas in the Rashi and Navamsa chart. Rashi can be remedied with some effort but Navamsa is God’s will. If Venus is afflicted by two or more malefic planets by placement or by Graha Dristi then is Curse of Spouse (Dara Shrapa) and will denote serious karmic suffering.

Combust Venus is when the Sun burns down the Rajas of Venus. Combust Venus can give good marriage and prevent any affairs, as the Rajas is controlled. If there is an Indra Dosha then it may cause trouble with elder men for females.

Blocked Venus is when there are two or more malefic planets before or after Venus. If malefics are present before Venus then it’s trouble in getting married, it’s hard to find a spouse, as Venus is unable to bring the spouse.
If malefic planets are after Venus then trouble is after marriage or relationships start. They prevent Venus from maintaining it.

Venus in Navamsas of Mars and Saturn also gives a lot of problems in relationships which can be remedied after worshipping the concerned deity.

The 7th House

The 7th house is the Kama Ayana and represents our Spouse. The D1 7th house is our behaviour and feelings towards our spouse and the 7th house of D9 is our spouse to be clear. The planets in the 7th house determine our interaction and experience with our spouse and all the people we meet. The 7th house is a sexual partner with whom we do the act of copulation, as its Dharma (9th from the 7th house) is in the 3rd house of maithuna. This partner will become a spouse from the 12th House of vivah. A person may have multiple partners but one wife.

Malefics in the 7th house give us a feeling of suffering or trouble in marriage, but all malefics are not bad. Here is a list of planets as they give results in the 7th house

• Sun:- Sun is Astha here. One needs to control sexuality and ego issues with the spouse. It can cause eye and dental problems.
• Moon:- Too sensual, may have many affairs as one’s mind is unsatisfied. Need to check Venus to confirm this.
• Mars:- There will be love and war. Mars in the 7th house is in MKS. Overcome anger to love more. The best remedy is to be a one-woman man.
• Mercury:- Mercury in the 7th house is MKS, bad for relationships as the person is not mature enough to deal with it.
• Jupiter:- Good for relationships and shows good behaviour towards the spouse. But here Jupiter is in zero digbala for the native, this may cause intelligence to fail once in life.
• Venus:- Good for marriage and spouse. Very good with management and business.
• Saturn:- Good for relationships, as it in full Dig Bala, shows the blessing of Varuna Deva. But Saturn will cause some sorrow or problem with the spouse. Saturn makes us ignorant so one has to be careful.
  Note: Anyone with Saturn in Kama Trikona will have problems understanding marriage and relationships.
• Rahu:- Very good in the 7th House as in Dig Bala, shows the blessing of Nirritti. One must not doubt his spouse, as Rahu causes overthinking and doubts.
• Ketu:- Relationships are mistakes and the native suffers due to this. Ketu in the 7th house makes relationships zero due to mistakes and can cause affairs.

This list is not exhaustive and results change based on other factors. This is just an outline of the planets in the 7th house. Too many planets in the 7th house cause to bring many relationships as all planets try to enforce their dictum. If the 7th house has four or more planets then Sadhu Yoga is activated as they destroy it but fighting among them.
Vedic Tip: If any bhava have more than three planets then that bhava gets destroyed but if these planets are combust then one can save the bhava and can gain success.

The 7th lord is also equally important. If the 7th lord is debilitated (No Neecha Bhanga), in MKS, in a curse or in dusthana then the relationship will break or have many serious issues. 7th Lord in the 6th and 8th houses is the worst. While in the 6th house, it causes fighting and diseases after marriage. The 8th house is the breakage of marriage or relationship. This house is seen in Rashi and Navamsa both. If anyhow the 7th house and the 8th house are connected the marriage or relationship will fail.

The 12th House

Upapada Lagna & Darapada

Darapada is the arudha of the 7th house and shows what we love or have higher emotions for. It is denoted as A7. A7 is the crush we love and when the A7 converts to UL (wife) we have happy married life. A7 should be well placed from AL and UL both. Planets connected to A7 show our sexuality, manners and culture.

Mangal Dosh

Mangalik Dosh is a serious issue in marriage. It shows Mars’s energy breaking the marriage. Mars is the natural ruler of the 8th house of Mangalya Sthana. Mangalya Sthana either sustains marriage or breaks it. To read more on Mangal Dosha read my previous blog.

Navamsa

Navamsa is the 9th division of the Rashi chart. It focuses on marriage, destiny, devatas and many more. It is one of the most important divisional charts in Vedic astrology. Marriage is the fruit of the 9th house (Dharma). The 7th house is 11th from the 9th house. The 7th house of Navamsa shows the first spouse. Make the 7th house of Navamsa as Lagna of Spouse (First) and you can make all predictions.
If the Navamsa 7th House is connected to Navamsa 6th, 8th and 2nd houses then the marriage will fail or see too many problems. To read more on Navamsa read my previous blog.

Tithi

The Tithi is the water element and will govern your emotions throughout life. The tithi you are born in is key to emotional well-being in a relationship. If the Tithi lord is in dusthana, combust or is afflicted, it will cause tremendous emotional suffering and may cause relationships to fail due to love and affection dying out. Tithi is water if associated with any fire planet causes emotional burning. If the tithi lord is having a high tide (too much Jala) then one is over-emotional and may end up in multiple affairs.

Some Tithis that are troublesome are

• Sukhla Pratipada – Vinshu Dosha. This is a major dosha and requires remedy.
• Chaturthi – No Jala. One has to worship Ganesh and be more compassionate.
• Tritiya and Ekadashi – Automatic Mangal Dosh. Mangal is your Tithi Lord. One must fast of Ekadashi for life.
• Krishna Chaturdashi – Shiva Dosha. It is a very serious Tithi Dosha and a curse. Worship Lord Shiva for your whole life to get over this sinful tithi.
• Amavasya – Kali Dosh. This tithi is also having serious dosh and karmic implications. This tithi is so negative that it can cause widowhood. Worship of Maa Kali is required for whole life.
• Poornima – This is a full moon tithi, it does not have a dosh, but natives born on this tithi suffer a lot and may go through some abuse in life due to Saturn. One must worship Shri Krishna as Guru on this tithi, or do the Satya Deva Mantra.

Out of these tithis, Shukla Pratipada, Krishna Chaturdashi and Amavasya are very serious Tithi Doshas and one must do proper remedies, or else the whole life is a test and suffering keeps on coming.

Atma Karaka & Dara Karaka

A lot of people study the Asta Chara Karakas and just stick to simple concepts. These are very serious and deep concepts and represent soul-level karmic implications. I will not go over what is Atma Karaka (AK) and what is Dara Karaka (DK) as that is a separate topic. If the AK is a bad house from the 7th house then we see struggles in marriage or relationship. AK in the 6th house is bad as it denotes fighting in a relationship, financial troubles after marriage, health issues of spouse etc. The worst is in AK in the 8th house of Rashi or Navamsa as it makes sure that the marriage will break. The 8th house is Mangalaya Sthana and breaks marriage or relationship. If AK is the 8th house of Navamsa it also denotes serious diseases.

DK is one that represents our spouse, business and people coming to us. If DK is afflicted then relationship troubles, low finances and business shutting down can happen. DK should be in the good house from AK to ensure the soul is accepting the spouse. Secondly, AK and DK should be friendly planets for marriage to prosper. For example, if AK is Jupiter and DK is Rahu then Guru Chandal is happening at the time of the relationship which will cause stress and fighting among the couple.

The 8th house from DK in Navamsa is Karmic debt of the Spouse.

If Karaka Nasha Bhava happens then also marriage can suffer or the fruits of the marriage can be denied.

Case Studies

Death of Spouse after marriage during the first pregnancy

The native lost his spouse just after six months of marriage. The spouse was pregnant and died without any prior health problems. At first look the chart looks fine but when we go into the finer details we see a lot of problems.

1. There two 12th Lords one Jupiter and one is Ketu. UL from Jupiter is in Cancer and UL from Ketu is in Capricorn. Ketu is more likely to bring marriage and furnish the UL. The UL in Capricorn is under Paap Kartari of Rahu and Saturn. The second house from UL is Rahu in Bhadhak Sthana. Bhadhak Rahu is death inflicting. Rahu shows poisons also as sarpas are poisonous creatures.
2. Look at Venus as the 7th lord in the 4th house is very strong. Venus is also the AK. The spouse is coming from a past life and a very good one. Check this Venus in Navamsa, it is in Kumbha (poison). Venus is going to be very problematic due to poison in Kumbha Navamsa. Destiny says this.
3. The Tithi is Poornima and its lord is Saturn. If Saturn is tithi lord the one will see sorrow in the relationship. Saturn is also the DK and is in the 6th house from AK. The AK feels like dying when going to DK. Venus is MKS in the 6th house. The DK in Navamsa is debilitated in Aries. This will be a major punishment in life.
4. The Dispositor of the 7th lord is the Moon in the 12th house in affliction and Mangal Dosha is very strong.

The native’s spouse died of blood cancer, after marriage.

First Wife Suicide, Second Marriage Divorce in 11 months of marriage.

Native’s first wife committed suicide after 6 years of marriage. I advised the native not to marry again as there is a serious curse on Venus from the past life. The native ignored the advice and married again. The second wife left him after a month and asked for divorce and alimony in the 11th month of the second marriage.

1. The Lagna Lord has to the 8th house. The Native does not understand marriage. Secondly, the 7th lord Jupiter is in the 6th house under Paap Kartari. Relationships are a serious issue in this chart.
2. Venus is under a serious curse in Rashi that too from a past life. Gemini Lagna has a serious dosha of Venus, now this Venus in curse will manifest as it’s with AK. Venus in Navamsa is also afflicted with Pisacha Yoga. Pisacha Yoga (Mars + Ketu) is very damaging in Navamsa and a serious threat to a spouse’s life.
3. If the 12th lord is in a curse all Upapadas will fall. We can also see that the first UL is in Leo and has serious Chandra astama dosha. The first spouse had a serious mental breakdown due to abuse. Mar and Venus conjunction can show female abuse. The worst mangal dosha is in Kumbha.
4. There are two Gandhanta in the chart. Gandhanta means a bad end as fire and water cannot be together. The first gandhanta can be seen easily as Venus and Mars. The Second Ghandanta is Tithi Vara Gandhanta. This happens when the Tithi and Vara lords are the same. The native is born on Wednesday and on Chaturthi Tithi and both are lorded by Mercury. In this case, no relationship or marriage will sustain.
5. Moon in Marana Karaka Sthana in Navamsa, your mind will always be in trouble due to relationship issues.

First Relationship Break Up, 2nd Relationship Love Marriage

In the above chart, the native had a serious relationship during his college days, but unfortunately, they had a break-up. We can see that Ketu is in the 7th house and he considered it as a mistake of his life as the break up caused a lot of emotional turmoil. We also see that the 7th lord Sun is in the 8th house, so the relationship will break. The second house from UL has Saturn and the full aspect of Mars, causing a Yama Yoga. The first relationship or marriage had to break. If the break up did not happen and the couple got married the spouse would have died due to this yoga. So breaking up was a good decision for the girl for her longevity

The second relationship came from Jupiter, the girl hailed from a wealthy family and they got married and have a beautiful daughter. For the second relationship second the 2nd house and the UL2 in Gemini. The second UL is in the 5th house of Love and Children, but when this UL manifested the guy moved away from his mother as she opposed this marriage. The 12th house from UL has to go for UL to manifest.

The 9th house from the UL2 in Gemini is the Ascendant, with Rahu and respected by Venus and Moon. This will show the child born from marriage, a daughter. Aquarius is a female sign with an aspect of two female planets. The second child will also be a daughter when born. Because this chart is having two children.

Divorce & Legal Problems for Spouse

We see that Venus is with debilitated Rahu and is blocked by Sun, Mars and Saturn. Moon is Marana Karaka Sthana. UL in Geminin with debilitated Ketu and UL Lord Mercury in a serious curse. The native had a lavish wedding ceremony. But just before the wedding the Groom’s father fell seriously ill and was bedridden. We can see that UL is in the 10th House so the 9th House of Father had to face the heat. We see Venus is completely blocked so marriage will not sustain. The 2nd lord from UL is in MKS and aspected by Rahu and Mars. The marriage had serious issues within six months and the spouse ran away to her fathers’s home. There she filed a police case with serious charges of harassment and dowry demand. The Yama Yoga was activated and serious suffering was to the groom’s family. We see Venus ins Scorpio Navamsa, the spouse will fill poison in life if no remedies are done.

Few Troublesome Relationships But No Marriage (Age 43)

The above chart is not a normal chart, first, there is serious Sarpa Dosha as three malefic planets are in Kendra. Rahu is conjoined Mars meaning the Sarpa is very angry. Secondly, there is also Kaal Amrit Yoga (Sister Yoga for Kaal Sapra) as all planets are from Rahu to Ketu, showing a serious curse of Brahma. Thirdly the 7th lord Sun becomes Atma Karaka showing a major karmic burden from the 7th and 9th house. The 7th lord is the AK in debility showing one will fall down in matters of dharma and spouse. Fourthly, Venus is completely blocked by Saturn and Sun. Fifthly, the tithi lord Mars is in Kuja Sthambana and in Marana Karaka Sthana. At the last Moon in Marana Karaka Sthana is also destroying the 7th house. None of the relationships worked and one is forced to live life alone.
Lagna Lord in the 8th house, one cannot understand the concept of relationships. The same is in the Navamsa, as the Lagna lord and the 8th lord are the same planet Mars.
